Did you know that electrical panels should be upgraded once every 25 years or so? If you’ve recently moved into a home that is 25 years or older, it is probably time to have an electrician look at your electrical panel. 25 years ago, we weren’t charging phones or laptops daily and appliances weren’t nearly as efficient. There is a good chance that your older home just isn’t capable of handling the amount of electricity you are using.    

While electricians stopped installing fuses in the 1960s, it is possible that your home still utilizes fuses. These inefficient electrical components should be replaced right away, especially if you can see visible signs of insulation or wire failure. Even the safer alternative, circuit breakers, can be hazardous when they are not serviced or replaced.

If you are remodeling your home or installing new appliances, you might want to consider installing a new electrical panel. Even electrical panels in homes that are less than 20 years old might not be able to handle the electrical needs of modern appliances. Before you plug in that new refrigerator or high-efficiency dryer, have an electrician review your electrical panel to make sure it’s up to snuff.
